Specifications ISSSC Records

(As decided by the ISSSC at the 10th Session in Seinäjoki/FIN February 10th, 1999)

Age Groups

ISSSC Records are listed by the ISSSC for the following age groups: 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89 years, etc. (five year age groups as high as necessary). Age shall be determind as of 30th June of the year of competition

(year of competition = 1st July of a year to 30th June of the following year).

Single Distances and Four Distance Competitions

ISSSC Records will be registered by the ISSSC for the following single distances (times) and four distance competitions (grand total number of points).

Single distances:

  • 500 m, 1000 m, 1500 m, 3000 m (Ladies)
  • 500 m, 1000 m, 1500 m, 3000 m, 5000 m (Men)

Four distance competitions:

  • 500 m, 1000 m, 500 m, 1000 m, Sprint (Ladies and Men)
  • 500 m, 1500 m, 1000 m, 3000 m, Allround Small (Ladies and Men)
  • 500 m, 3000 m, 1500 m, 5000 m, Allround (Men)

Applications

Applications for ISSSC Records must be made by the competitor in question within 60 days from the end of the competition to the Correspondence Address of the ISSSC on the official ISSSC Record Application Form, according to the following provisions and the provisions listed on this application form.

The organizer or the referee of the competition shall send two Announcements of the Competition (if not issued in the ISSSC-News), two Official Competition Programs, two Official Protocols of the Competition and two Lists of Competitors with addresses and birthdates to the Correspondance Address of the ISSSC until two weeks after the competition at the latest.

If the organizer or the referee of the competition does not send the above-mentioned papers to the Correspondance Address of the ISSSC, the competitor in question must send in minimum one Announcement of the Competition (if not issued in the ISSS-News), one Official Program of the competition and one Official Protocol together with the completely filled in ISSSC Record Application Form to the Correspondance Address of the ISSSC.

The Official Protocol of the Competition must be printed and must contain

  • every draw by lot and arrangement of pairs which has taken place (ISU Rule 268 § 1 a);
  • the times of automatic timekeeping, recorded in hundredth of a second (ISU Rule 268 § 1 b), including starting times, lap times, accumulated lap times, finish times;
  • the times of manual timekeeping – accumulated lap times in tenth of a second (see ISU Rule 274) – final times in hundredth of a second (see ISU Rule 246, § 6), (ISU Rule 268 § 1 c).
  • Name of the organizer and names and functions of the jury members, weather conditions.

Provisions

  • Result reached at a national or international announced competition with 5 year age groups from 30 years (see above § 1) by a speed skater with a competition license of his national speed skating association, being member of the International Skating Union (I.S.U.).
  • Result better than at the ISSSC Records’ List of the last year of competition, published by the ISSSC in the last issue of the International Seniors’ Speed Skating News (ISSS-News) or in another manner.
  • If there is not mentioned a record for a 5 year age group in the ISSSC Records’ List, the first of a race in this 5 year age group may make a record application.
  • ISSSC Records over all distances may be recognized also for times achieved in quartet starts (see ISU Rule 273 § 1 f).
  • Distances to be skated must be in accordance with the announcement (see ISU Rule 273 § 3 b).
  •  Track of 400 meters (ISU Rule 273 § 4 a).
  • The conditions of ISU Rules 207 (track), 244 (watches), 245 (manual time keeping) and 246 (automatic time keeping) must be observed. Automatic timekeeping must have been used (ISU Rule 273 § 1 b).
  • In races over several laps, the time must be taken and noted for each lap. Also the accumulated lap times shall be recorded in units of a hundredth of a second when automatic timekeeping is used and in units of a hundredth of a second when automatic timekeeping is used and in units of a tenth of a second for the manual timekeeping (ISU Rule 247).
  • ISSSC Records for All-round combinations over four distances can only be recognized if the competition is held over a maximum of three days, and the distances are skated in the order indicated in the announcement (ISU Rule 273 § 1 c).
  • ISSSC Records for the Sprint combination over four distances can only be recognized if the competition is over two days, with each individual distance skated only once each day and changed starting lanes (see ISU Rule 226) on the second day (ISU Rule 273 § 1 d).
  • If the existing ISSSC Record is broken more than once on the same day in competitions at the same venue, only the best time obtained shall be recognized as a new ISSSC Record. However, when the final classification for the 500 meters is decided based on the total time in two races, each 500 meters race is to be considered as a separate competition (see ISU Rule 273 § 5).
  • Any competitor who equals an existing ISSSC Record shall have his name entered in the ISSSC Records’ List (see ISU Rule 273 § 6).
  • For each Record obtained , or the equaling of any record, the ISSSC shall issue a diploma to the skater (see ISU Rule 273 § 7).

Decision about ISSSC Records, Issue of the ISSSC Records’ List

  • The ISSSC decides on the recognition of new ISSSC Records.
  • The ISSSC Records’ List of the last winter season will be published by the ISSSC in the International Seniors’ Speed Skating News (ISSS-News) or in another manner every year.
