In our nursery we cultivated most of the cultivars of Pieris japonica and a number of its hybrids most of them with Pieris formosa.
All hybrids and cultivars are sufficiently winter hardy.

Pieris 'Brouwer's Beauty'
This hybrid between the "Mountain" and "Japanese Pieris" (P. floribunda × P. japonica) is hardier than P. japonica and forms a 3 to 6' dense mound of slightly serrated shiny, dark green leaves. Its arching purple strands of buds show all winter and open to blueberry-like flowers. Given acid soil and moisture, this variety will thrive.

From seed collected on Yakushima, Japan, a new breed of Pieris was originated by Esveld of Holland. A very hardy selection. ‘Cavatine' is a tight growing low mound with slightly upright racemes of white flowers blooming later than other pieris. Jong leaves yellow-green.
