Fietstochtje




This photo shows the "Koepoortsbrug" in Hoorn, as I saw it, when I looked out the window of  the house where I was born in 1936. We lived above the cafe of my grandfather, George Hooij. The name of the cafe was  "De Morgenster". It was located at the corner of the Koepoortsplein and the Achterstraat. We lived there until 1947. Then my grandfather sold the cafe and we had to move to a house in an other part of town. I shed bitter tears, when I left my childhood playing grounds.

Here I am, in August 2000, standing at the front-door of the house, where I was born in 1936: Achterstraat 27, corner of the Koepoortsplein, Hoorn:

Here I am with two friends at the point where three countries meet, The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, the highest point of the Netherlands, 322 m a.s.l.

Later, I studied Physical Geography and became lecturer in Geomorphology at the  Faculty of Geographical Sciences of  the  University of Amsterdam. For my list of  publications on soil erosion and other subjects, please, click on  Publications of F.J.P.M. Kwaad .
